Trans fat, often used to fry fast foods, has been blamed for increasing obesity, heart disease and diabetes.
A six year research study showed monkeys fed a diet with Trans fat, gained more than three times as much weight as their counterparts that didn't consume Trans fat.
Most of the weight gain was in their bellies, which is a major risk factor for diabetes.
Those on the Trans fat diet also had higher blood sugar levels.
