New Stem Cell Source

A possible side-step to the controversy over destroying embryos for stem cell research.

A report out of Wake Forest and Harvard University found that stem cells in amniotic fluid donated by pregnant women hold the same promise as embryonic stem cells.

Researchers say they were able to extract the cells with no harm to mother or fetus, and were able to turn them into several different tissue cell types; including brain, liver and bone.

Although scientists are hopeful, critics of the report say cells from amniotic fluid can't do as much as those from an embryo.
