With just hours to go until the polls open, workers spent Monday making final preparations at various polling places.

This year, those preparations also include trying to minimize the spread of the H1N1 virus.

The Virginia Board of Elections shipped more than 2,000 bottles of hand sanitizer across the Commonwealth. In Harrisonburg, officials also bought some extra.

It will also be the first time many voters in the Friendly City are greeted with electronic poll books. It's a computerized check-in system the city tried during the Democratic primary in June.

"It takes longer for the voting machine technicians and for our assistant registrar and the personnel from the city to get everything set up, programmed and functioning. But, it will save the voters quite a lot of time," says John Simmers, chair of the Harrisonburg Electoral Board.

Polls open across Virginia Tuesday at 6 a.m.
