A flavoring ingredient used in hundreds of processed foods contains salmonella and is being recalled.

The Food and Drug Administration says a flavor-enhancing ingredient called hydrolyzed vegetable protein manufactured by a Las Vegas company is a common ingredient in many processed foods including soups, sauces, chilies, stews, hot dogs, gravies, seasoned snack foods, dips and dressings.

All products made with the ingredient since September 17 are being recalled. The FDA said no illnesses or deaths have been reported.

The FDA said Thursday it collected and analyzed samples at the Las Vegas facility and confirmed the presence of a strain of salmonella in the company's processing equipment.
