HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The Internet is filled with a lot of good information and helpful tools, but the dark side can let scammers steal your personal information.
The kind of information you may have to enter to sign up for health insurance with the Health Insurance Marketplace.
"People use these websites to get people's social security numbers, so it is important to make sure they are at the correct website," said Andy Bolt, a health care navigator.
Bolt said the only website you should go to is healthcare.gov, any other website claiming to sell you insurance or is the real website is a scam.
"Unfortunately there is no way to tell," said Bolt
IT technician with Total Technology Managements Stacy Moomaw said some of the websites look promising.
"Scammers make their website look identical banking, healthcare, anything they can make them look identical and you wouldn't know with the experience going to them or not," said Moomaw.
They can duplicate pictures, claim they are a trusted website, and make themselves look legit, but they are not.
A concern Bolt has been hearing about for the last few days.
"A lot of people are worried scam websites so it is a good thing if you are unsure to contact a trusted organization," said Bolt.
Don't trust a website found by doing a quick and easy Google search.
