Some people in the Valley are trying to make it easier to bike around Rockingham County.

The City of Harrisonburg has a bicycle plan, but Rockingham County does not.

The Board of Supervisors agreed Wednesday, for 11 members to form a bicycle advisory committee.

That committee will look at where bike lanes are currently located in the county, and where they're needed.

"Several of us have talked to VDOT over the last couple of years and they reminded us you need a bike plan. Without a bike plan, you can't get funding, and people are seeing the benefits of having bike lanes on their roads where they can ride safely," said Travis Layman, bicycle committee member.

The committee members will work with VDOT to discuss which upcoming road projects have space for a bike lane.
