Chesterfield County police are investigating the death of an elementary school pupil who apparently suffered an allergic reaction.
Spokeswoman Elizabeth Caroon said Tuesday that an initial investigation shows that the Hopkins Road Elementary School pupil died Monday after suffering the reaction at school.
Chesterfield Fire Department officials tell WTVR-TV (http://bit.ly/wUxxCY ) that the girl was in cardiac arrest when emergency medical crews arrived at the school Monday afternoon. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Chesterfield County schools spokesman Shawn Smith said in a statement that the school division will provide support services for students and staff following the incident.
Caroon says the state medical examiner's office will determine the cause of the allergic reaction.
