Project Aims to Get West Virginians Active

A new wellness project aims to motivate West Virginians to get off their couches and be healthy.

LiveWell West Virginia is a collaboration of the West Virginia University Extension Service and the Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/Lq4tRJ). The goal is to help residents achieve and maintain healthy lifestyles.

The project includes community wellness challenges and a website that provides health and wellness information. The website address is www.livewellwv.ext.wvu.edu .

A county-by-county challenge, Summer Steps, kicks off Wednesday with a walk in Morgantown. Another walk will be held Thursday in Charleston.

Participants in the challenge will track on the website the number of miles they walk, run, play a sport, ride a bike or swim. The winning county will be designated as a "Live Well West Virginia Community."

The winning county will be announced in September.
