West Virginia University Hospitals East has signed a letter of intent to purchase 50 acres of land for a new medical campus but isn't saying how much it will pay.
Officials with Jefferson Memorial Hospital announced the agreement Wednesday to acquire land near U.S. 340 South in Jefferson County.
Chief Administrative Officer Christina Coad says the new campus will have room not only for a new hospital, but also for an office building, imaging center, wellness center and community educational space.
She says the search for the right site has lasted several years. This one also allows for future growth.
Coad says it's highly visible and has multiple entrances.
Contract negotiations will now continue, and the deal could close by Labor Day.
Questions about the cost weren't immediately answered.
