CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- The American Lung Association says two metropolitan areas in West Virginia are among the 25 worst in the country for year-round particle pollution.
The Lung Association's annual State of the Air report released Wednesday says the Weirton-Steubenville, Ohio, metro area is tied with Wheeling for the 22nd worst for year-round particle pollution.
Last year, seven metro areas in West Virginia made the top 25 list. Dropping off the list this year are areas including Charleston, Fairmont-Clarksburg, Huntington, Martinsburg and Parkersburg.
The Lung Association also examined ozone in several West Virginia counties. Greenbrier County received the highest grade, an A. The lowest grade, a D, went to Kanawha County. The report said Kanawha County had a total of eight days of high ozone levels, three more than in the previous report.
