ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV)-- The county has chosen an outside group to construct a study to determine the next step. Moseley Architects were chosen to walk the county through the various options.

Currently, the jail is at 40 percent over capacity. Rockingham County is also leasing one hundred beds from Middle River Regional Jail. That costs over $1 million every year.

Those with the county said the problem may get a little worse before it gets better.

"Our jail beds may go up before they come down. The key to this is that we've got to have some overall long-term plan for addressing corrections in our community," said Joe Paxton, the Rockingham County Administrator.
