The Swoope Volunteer Fire Department has a new state of the art fire truck they will be using to battle blazes.

The truck, which they purchased from a fire company in Delaware, is replacing an older model from the 1970s.

The new truck features all sorts of new equipment including an infrared camera to see through walls, special hoses that can be brought inside a home during a blaze, and even extra seats to carry more firefighters.

Volunteer Kevin Wilkes says this engine was designed specifically for the convenience of firefighters.

"This particular vehicle was designed specifically for fire service, this is a fire engine," says Wilkes. "The vehicle it'll be replacing is a commercial chassis that was designed for school buses or dump trucks, and it had fire apparatus' behind it."

The fire department says this new truck will allow firefighters to get to the scene of a fire more quickly. It's also providing more safety to the volunteers who risk their lives every day.

Didn't know there were special hoses that could be taken into houses to fire fire. All the fire hoses that all other fire departments, that I know of can do that! Nice pumper, even if it used and as old as she is.
