JMU students have created a new HOV lot on their campus to cut down on the congestion. The lot was open at the beginning of the year, but Monday was the grand opening.

From 9:00 to 12:00 Monday through Friday, students with at least three people in their car can park in the lot. With the lot totally full, it would service about 54 students, keeping 36 cars off the road.

"Hopefully what this lot will contribute to Harrisonburg in the long run is fewer cars on the road, not just on campus, but around town, said Tom Culligan SGA president.

If the lot becomes a hit, they would like to build more.
