A national survey shows that a Virginia women's prison and regional jail have high rates of sexual misconduct.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics report released Thursday shows that inmates at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women reported high rates of inmate-on-inmate sexual victimization and staff sexual misconduct.
At the 1,200-inmate prison, 11.4 percent of inmates reported being victimized by another inmate and six percent reported sexual misconduct with staff, about a third of it "without force or pressure."
At the Eastern Shore Regional jail, 9.9 percent of those responding to the survey reported one or more incidents of sexual victimization by the staff.
Neither agency responded to a request for comment.
