The staff at Waterman Elementary School worked quickly over the weekend to remove widespread graffiti at the school.
The school discovered about 45 gang taggings at the school on Saturday. The graffiti was spread on school signs, mobile units, and in Morrison Park.
The school immediately notified police, and school maintenance workers cleaned up the markings before the students returned to school Monday morning.
"We've been relatively free of any kind of gang activity including the taggings. This is by far the worst activity that we've seen in terms of any kind of destruction of school property," says Harrisonburg Superintendent Don Ford.
Ford says he takes pride in school property and is glad that maintenance cleaned it up right away.
