Metro transit officials say two men were assaulted on a green line train.

Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato says Metro Transit Police were called to the L'Enfant Plaza station early Thursday after they reported that they had been attacked on the train. She says the men were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A man who says he saw the end of the incident, Chris Raney of Temple Hills, Maryland, tells "The Washington Post" that when a train pulled into the station and the doors opened, he saw one man on the floor and another screaming while beaten by another man.

Asato says two suspects fled the scene.

Earlier this month, four people were injured in a large fight that spilled from a rail car onto the platform at the L'Enfant Plaza station.
