In September of 2000, there were 37, 291 registered voters in Augusta County. That number has gone up by more than 3,000 this year. Officials say major issues like the war in Iraq, the 9-11 attacks and the economy are contributing to the increase.
"It's 4 to 5 issues like that that are driving the number of people that are registering and I'm certainly glad to see that a number of young people are registering..we need young people," says Lionel Moomaw, member of the electoral board. The registration deadline for the election is October 4th.
