The Department of Motor Vehicles in Harrisonburg is one of many state offices where computers were back up and running Thursday morning.

Virginia drivers with expired licenses had to wait an entire week to get them renewed because of a computer glitch.

Because of that, all state DMV offices will remain open for an additional hour Thursday and Friday, and some offices will even offer extended hours Saturday.

A computer malfunction was said to have affected between 35,000 and 45,000 drivers.

Lines at the Harrisonburg DMV were not as long as expected Thursday morning.

"My license was expired for six months, so it was pretty bad," says Mindi Vergara, who got another license Thursday. "I came last week and it was closed, so I was a little frustrated. But they took me right away today and it was really fast. It took like ten minutes."

"It wasn't long at all. I got in there and told them what needed to be done. They gave me a clipboard, and actually called my number before I could sit down," says Cory Taylor, whose license was recently stolen.

A Harrisonburg police officer said there has not been an increased number of expired license penalties against drivers, and they took the statewide DMV problem into consideration.

To help out the drivers who need a new license, the Harrisonburg DMV office will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
