With the coming holiday weekend, Virginia officials are reminding people to drink responsibly, and state police are working with troopers in neighboring states to catch drunk drivers.

It's an expansive team effort, with Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, West Virginia and North Carolina participating.

Gov. Bob McDonnell issued the Border to Border effort along with Virginia's 2010 Checkpoint Strikeforce Campaign. Virginia state troopers have already set up several checkpoints.

"So, we'll be utilizing DUI checkpoints, utilizing federal overtime money to have some extra people out during the peak drunk driving hours," says 1st Sgt. Scott VanLear.

State troopers will also be on high alert for reckless drivers and speeders, in the hope of reducing the number of crashes and fatalities.
