Car Dealers Push Fall Deals to Attract Customers

If buying a new car has crossed your mind lately, experts say, if they had to pick one day to make the big purchase, it would be Labor Day.
However, Staunton Nissan General Manager Patrick Janes doesn't necessarily agree that Monday is better than any other day this week.
He says it's more that the beginning of the fall season for the sales is making now a good time to buy.
Car dealers say manufacturers have been releasing new vehicle models throughout the entire year for the past couple years, in an attempt to drum up sales, but that's not true this year.
According to Janes, manufacturers are hoping the fall release will be out with the old and in with the new.
"The manufacturers begin to get very aggressive with their rebates and their APR programs to make sure that, in theory, we have room for those 2011 models," says Janes.
That's good news for customers like David Moubray, who's been in the market for a new vehicle for the last few months. He says the fall sales didn't bring him out to the dealership, and he's not going to rush into buying.
"Unless I can get a good deal, then I'd be up for it, but that's not why I'm out here," adds Moubray.
Janes says he sees a lot of savvy customers like Moubray, but he says manufacturers are wising up too.
"You're not seeing the crazy production levels that they had before when they flooded the market with cars," comments Janes.
That means not as many older models to clear out, but manufacturers still want them gone.
Manufacturers are offering deals like cash rebates and zero percent APR, which is why Moubray's leaning toward the 2010 vehicles.
"The car dealers are not giving much incentive in rebates to the newer cars as they do with the ones they have on the lot now," says Moubray.
