A national organization is reaching out to younger students in the Valley to make sure they have the books they need.

First Book promotes literacy by sending new books to schools in Harrisonburg and all over the country.

Volunteers labeled thousands of boxes of books Tuesday at the Interchange Warehouse.

The organization hopes to help families that can't afford to buy books for their children.

"First Book has realized that the problem of access to great great educational resources has always been a huge problem," says Jane Robinson, CFO of First Book.

"Our first thought was, 'Yeah, this is something we want to do. This is something that we can do our small part of providing space and some labor and services,'" says Keith Vanbenschoten, of Interchange.

The organization has a goal to deliver one million books nationwide.

Lucy, we understand and welcome the question! As a staff member of First Book and one of the coordinators at the large project in Harrisonburg, I can tell you that all of the books are a huge assortment of new, award winning, age appropriate Pre-school-8th grade books from national publishers. Many if not all of the books are well known classics such as "Hoot", "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs", "The Berenstain Bears", "The Poky Little Puppy" and "Stone Soup". First Book is a nationally recognized and awarded non-profit out of Washington DC, but has hundreds of volunteer board and partnerships all over the US and Canada. You can learn more about us a www.firstbook.org or feel free to contact a staff member! I hope this helps answer some of your questions about who we are and what we do. It's all about getting kids to read and with books of their own!

All I can say is: What are the books? I hate to question everything, but with the world we are living in I must "Question with Boldness"! I hope this "National Organization" which I've never heard of is only doing the right thing and being generous, but I must question everything!

A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
