GE Closing Winchester Plant

The city of Winchester will lose a major employer later this month.

The General Electric plant is shutting down September 24.

It appears is closing at this time due to changes in energy legislation
GE officials say the plant is closing because the traditional light bulb it makes will be obsolete due to new energy policy.

Officials say rumors that the factory's closure is sending jobs overseas are not true.

While more than 200 employees are being laid off, company officials say most of them will qualify for retirement benefits.
