Disposing of trash in Page County is an expensive process now that the Battle Creek Landfill is now closed, but officials are in the final stages of planning for a new facility that could save the county some serious cash.
Crews are preparing to build a solid waste transfer station at the old Stanley landfill. Having the station will save money that's now being used to transport trash to sites in other areas. Building the facility will cost the county about $400,000, money county officials say is well spent.
"It'll probably save us between 35 and 45 percent and the longer we use it, the greater the savings will be," says Interim County Administrator William Aleshire. Crews plan to begin work on the facility next week.
