The 11 candidates for the Rockingham County Clerk of Court held a public forum Monday night at Turner Ashby High School in Bridgewater.
They discussed several issues including how records should be maintained, how much party affiliation should matter, and the importance of experience for the job. Several audience members spoke about how they plan to choose among so many candidates.
"I would say the experience is going to count very highly on this," said Jerry Bennett, from Harrisonburg.
"I waited to see who would surface with the best chance of winning," said Di-Ann Hand, from Harrisonburg. "[Also], who had the best qualifications, and represented the community and family values."
"My personal opinion is that it's going to come down to 100 votes," said Christa Gitchell of Harrisonburg. "I don't think it's going to have anything to do with party affiliation."
