The most expensive option is staying with the current K-5, 6-8 and 9-12 configuration. The least expensive option is the controversial plan that includes the city-wide fourth and fifth grade school.

"Instead of washing your hands of that and saying lets build a new elementary school," said Harrisonburg Resident William Smith. "I hope you will consider living within the new high school and the current buildings."

The board has concluded that the more buildings, the higher the administrative costs each year.

Through November, the board will be taking public comments on the plan and will be updating the information.

In researching Virginia schools, Superintendent Dr. Donald Ford says there are more than 50-different configurations throughout the Commonwealth.

The board hopes to make a final decision on the K-8 configuration by mid December.
