The Virginia Department of Transportation wants your feedback about a proposed expansion to Port Republic Road in Rockingham County.

The project would widen more than a mile of Port Republic Road to four lanes, from Boyers Road to the Harrisonburg city limits.

It would also add a bicycle lane, a sidewalk, and a noise barrier wall.

If you want to give your opinion about this $27 million project, you can meet with VDOT officials on December 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stone Spring Elementary School.

The school is located on Peach Grove Avenue in Harrisonburg.

i have to travel that road daily and our business is on that road. this expansion is desperately needed. just don't let local/city officials have any input - i'm sure they would put a stoplight up every 20 feet just like the rest of harrisonburg.

I travel this section of Port Rd. daily, and usually don't have a problem with traffic. The DOT needs to focus more on the congestion near JMU on Port Road and the congestion on Reservoir Street between Walmart and Costco. These seem to be more troublesome spots with poor traffic patterns and lights that don't provide adequate traffic flow!!
