A Staunton woman who worked as an informant from the Staunton Police Department has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing drugs from police.

Forty-seven-year-old Barbara Smith pleaded guilty in June to several charges involving cocaine and heroin.

According to court testimony in another case, Smith hid a package of cocaine from police inside the seat belt mechanism of her car while working as an informant last year.

Prosecutors say that also last year, police responded to a report of a heroin overdose by Smith and found drugs inside her home. Later, she was nabbed with cocaine during a traffic stop.
