Michael Vick is setting aside nearly $1 million for the care of pit bulls seized from his dogfighting operation.

Federal prosecutors had asked a judge last week to freeze about $928,000 to care for the dogs and find homes for them. In court papers, the government noted what they called Vick's "deteriorating financial condition."

Several creditors are suing Vick for more than $5 million, and an arbitrator has ruled he should repay the Falcons nearly $20 million in bonus money.

A consent order entered Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Richmond says Vick has agreed to place the money in an escrow account by Friday.

Vick faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced December 10 on a federal dogfighting conspiracy conviction. He voluntarily began serving his prison term last week.

Vick also faces state charges.
