Police in southern Florida have detained at least three people for questioning in the death of football star Sean Taylor.

A law enforcement official in Lee County confirms that three men from the Fort Myers area are in custody. The official asked not to be named because the investigation is being handled by Miami-Dade County police.

A Miami-Dade County police detective told The Associated Press he wasn't aware of anyone in custody. He said only that detectives are in the Fort Myers area on a case.

The Miami Herald reported earlier that the suspects included two men in their 20s and a teenager. Investigators think the suspects learned about Taylor's house from someone who was bragging about Taylor's wealth.

A former lawyer for Taylor says the police seem to be following "extremely good leads."

The Washington Redskins player was shot at his home in the Miami area early Monday in what police call a random burglary. He died a day later.
