A former West Virginia doctor facing more than 120 medical malpractice cases lists few assets and a pile of debt in a document filed as part of his bankruptcy proceedings in Alabama.

In Tuesday's filing, John King said his assets consist of a 1993 Volvo worth $500 and pending lawsuits of uncertain value. The filing says he owes various creditors more than $125,000.

The filing also indicates King has no income. It doesn't mention more than a dozen corporations, trusts and other legal entities he told a Putnam County Circuit Court held about $10,000 in assets last December.

King filed for Chapter Seven bankruptcy, meaning his debts would be eliminated.

Because the bankruptcy proceedings could delay the Putnam County lawsuits, several people who are suing King have asked the bankruptcy court to allow those cases to move forward. A hearing on those requests is scheduled for December 20.

The lawsuits stem from King's stint as an orthopedic surgeon at the hospital formerly known as Putnam General in 2002. King's lawyer didn't immediately return a phone call Thursday.
