A 19-year-old Crimora man is dead Thursday night, after a high speed accident Wednesday that police say could have been prevented.

State police are still investigating the accident on New Hope-Crimora Road, but they say alcohol may have also been a factor.

Police say four teens were out joyriding around 10 o'clock Wednesday night. Eighteen-year-old Jason Steidel lost control of the vehicle, flipping it and hitting a tree.

All four people were ejected from the car and 19-year-old Timothy Ray Moran died.

State Police Sgt. Frank Pyanoe says the part of the road where the accident occurred is not typically a dangerous stretch of road.

He says, "It's not a dangerous stretch of road but with conditions permitting, if there's a high rate of speed involved, it could be very dangerous."

Charges against the driver are pending. The other victims survived with minor injuries.
