Student Dies From School Bus Crash

A Louisa County teenager who was aboard a school bus that crashed Wednesday has died of his injuries.

Sergeant Kevin Barrick with the Virginia State Police says 16-year-old Thomas Cameron of Bumpass died Wednesday night at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Seven other students were injured in the crash, which happened at about 7 a-m near Mineral. Police say the bus was traveling west on Route 618, ran off the right shoulder and struck a tree.

The bus driver, 34-year-old Lorrie Ann Batten of Mineral, was not injured. She's been charged with reckless driving.

Police say their investigation is continuing. The names of the injured students have not been released.
