In an extraordinarily tight vote, the Stonewall Jackson area Boy Scouts lost their bid to rezone and redevelop land at Camp Shenandoah.

The Augusta County Board of Supervisors denied the proposition 4-3, at their last meeting.

The scout's proposal would have allowed for development on 159 acres of land at the Swoope location, but local residents have fought it from the beginning.

"I'm very optimistic about both initiating a good, constructive dialog, and starting to work on some of the problems that are occurring out there and hopefully correcting them," said Jack Taylor, the Area Council President.
