The name of a Fort Defiance senior killed in a car crash has been released.

Police say Amy Lin Caracofe of Crimora was driving her Toyota Celica on Dam Town Road just east of Route 11.

She swerved off the right side of the road and over-corrected. Then she crossed into the left lane and hit a tree.

The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m Thursday, shortly after Caracofe left school for the day.

The school is offering additional counseling to students. Some students created a memorial to Caracofe at the site of the accident, which was not far from the school.

The Fort Defiance principal says some of Caracofe's closest friends decided to stay home Friday, which is a decision the school supports.

I think that Robert actually made a good point. I went to FDHS and I know how studnets drive. If there was more emphasis on good driving, this would not have happened. Also, I thikn that we need to remember that Amy is not the only who's life has been taken too quickly. So, before we all get holier than thou we need to remember those that we lost!

Hey Robert...my best friend is dead and you have the nerve to come on here and share your opinion about " the maniac teenagers" going to and leaving school. Get a life. She was 17 years old and had a lifetime of opportunity before her. I pray that when your friends die no jerks like you post comments like this about their death. This is a time that friends and family need support and sympathy...not someone telling us how careless and maniacal our friend/family member is. Keep it to yourself.

What a terrible tragedy. I hope this will encourage us all to slow down, me included.
