Students and faculty at Fort Defiance High School are mourning the loss of 17-year-old Amy Caracofe who died Thursday in a car accident after leaving the school.
According to Principal Larry Landes, extra counselors were brought in Friday to help students deal with Amy’s death.
Landes says this is the second senior this school year to die in a car accident and the students need all the support they can get.
"Just providing support, friendship, structure, letting the teachers, the adults and kids know that we have a very strong support network here," says Landes. "Counseling, just a place to go and reflect."
Landes says many of Amy’s close friends chose not to attend school Friday, a decision the school supports.
