Michael Vick left Virginia Monday to enter a drug treatment program at a Kansas prison.
Federal marshals escorted Vick Monday morning from a regional jail on Virginia's Northern Neck.
Completing the drug treatment program could reduce the former NFL star's 23-month sentence on a federal dogfighting conviction up to a year.
Vick's attorney, Billy Martin, said in a statement that the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback is now being housed at the U.S. Bureau of Prisons minimum security facility in Leavenworth.
Martin says Vick hopes to go back to professional football when he's released.
Vick tested positive for marijuana in September while he was on supervised release after pleading guilty in federal court.
