A former high school bookkeeper in Augusta County admitted to stealing just under $14,000 from the school.
Prosecutors say 30-year-old Shannon Armstrong of Swoope blamed her crime on her drug-addicted husband.
Armstrong pleaded guilty Monday to embezzling at Fort Defiance High School from October 2000 to March of last year.
Augusta County Circuit Judge Thomas Wood gave her a five-year suspended prison term and placed her on five years probation. She was ordered to pay back the money.
Last week, Armstrong was indicted on four additional charges of embezzlement in Augusta County stemming from her role as treasurer of the Churchville Elementary Boosters. That case involves an undisclosed amount of cash.
