Organizers trying to get an Extreme Sports Park built at Expoland in Fishersville are going to run another dirt bike sound test.
Area residents spoke out against the plan because of possible noise pollution. Residents in one neighborhood across Interstate 64 from Expoland say they expect the noise will be loud enough to devalue their homes.
Organizers for the sports park say that dirt bikes won't be loud enough to be heard from that distance. So, Blue Ridge Power Sports in Bridgewater is building a smaller track to show how loud the beginning of a race could be.
They purchased a piece of land next to interstate 81 so the sound will have similar conditions. Organizers say they'll be creating the loudest conditions possible.
"One thing they wanted was a larger group of high performance bigger motorcycles, which do put out a little more sound, and we're going to have a pretty good group here to simulate more race conditions," says Mitch Troyer, Blue Ridge Power Sports.
A month ago, a similar test was held at Expoland, but at an Augusta County Zoning Appeals Board meeting later that day, residents from the neighborhood said that the test didn't mimic what a real race would be like.
The test's organizers are waiting for the Zoning Appeals Board to give permission before they can start construction on the $500,000 park that will include skateboarding and soap box derby racing as well as motor-cross racing.
The test will be held on February 23 after the short track is built.

Who in their right mind would oppose such a wide variety of activies for our local youth? Our children need to have a place to go and something to be a part of. This sports park is a GREAT idea for the children of this community.
I would like to extend my appreciation to the Owner and all the personnel at Blue Ridge Honda. For all their efforts on handling all aspects of this testing is a tremendous honor. With Blue Ridge having organized a lot of the Yearly Fair races in our area they will be able to mimic a race with the largest class of bikes. This will be the Fourth Sound Test that we have done so we are excited to put this to rest. The EPA started strict regulations in the late 1980's and all manufactures are forced to meet these regulations. I would also like to put to rest that we are only holding 16-20 motocross events a year and not over 200 as it has been told by others. This will be a family environment with picnic areas, BMX, Skateboarding, and Soap box derby. Our future plans are to have Sand Volleyball, Outdoor Basketball, and Batting Cages. Expo was built as a place for community activity over 30 years ago and it is our wish that this 188 acres is used to its potential to benefit the majority.
