It's been almost a week since 17-year-old Amy Caracofe died in a car accident on Dam Town Road in Fort Defiance. Some questions are being raised about the safety of that road as one county resident single-handedly tries to get improvements made.

Dave Morani first learned this road could be dangerous while driving behind a school bus one day.

Morani says, "I noticed that each time another vehicle came by in the opposite direction, it caused the bus to leave the road surface onto the shoulder. Actually, both vehicles would have to leave the road surface to pass safely."

So, Morani brought the information to the Augusta Board of Supervisors, who responded by contacting VDOT. In three years, some minor work has been done to the road, but Morani still wants to see more done.

He adds, "They have to purchase the land to straighten out the road, and then they have to actually construct the road and widen it, straighten it, pave it, but the total price tag is $3.8 million."

With a price tag that big, it will take until 2010 to get the money. So for now, Morani is trying to warn people to drive slowly and cautiously on Dam Town Road to prevent another fatal accident like the one that killed Amy Caracofe.

Morani says, "We were trying to prevent this from occurring, and when we saw it, it's like popping a balloon. All the efforts failed to prevent this."

He says other county residents should voice their concerns about secondary roads in order to make a difference.

He advises, "Make sure they know the danger exists. If you see something that you think is a danger and is a danger to drivers and to the safety of people traveling the roads, let somebody know."

Just wanted everyone to know that a video has been posted under community photos and videos...under the category (newsworthy videos) and the title is "Remembering a Hero" It is a small tribute to Amy and nothing will ever be enough to express such a tragic loss. Rip Amy Lin ~ You are greatly missed. <3

This is a terrible road .. I make my children go out of there way and take 612 to school. Dam town road is way to dangerous. Amy was one of my daughters best friends. I hope they dont wait till 2010 to fix this road, by then there could be alot more deaths.. The road is used by 80% of the buses going to and from the three schools in Fort Defiance that right there should make this problem #1 for VDOT !! PLEASE FIX THE ROAD !!!! One death is too many !!!!

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
