State Senator Emmett Hanger threw his hat into the ring in the race for Lt. Governor on Monday.
"I am announcing today that I will be a candidate for the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia," said Hanger.
He cited his service time to both Virginia and the nation.
"I am proud to have served the citizens of Virginia for 9 years as a State Senator, and before that as a member of the House of Del. I also served our state and nation as a captain in the Virginia Army National Guard," said Hanger.
Hanger says he's been debating whether to run for some time now, but that the post will give him the opportunity to push for broader policies.
"We simply must push for solutions to our transportation problems. Parents should be able to spend time with their children, not sit in traffic. Our businesses must get their goods to market and 1000 lives lost each year in traffic accidents is simply unacceptable in the Commonwealth," said Hanger.
