The police chief of Middletown was suspended Monday night by the town council after being arrested two times in the same day for drunken driving in the nearby town of Strasburg.
Forty-one-year-old Roger Ashley was denied bail yesterday and moved to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation. Ashley told the court that he planned to enter a treatment program for substance abuse.
Ashley was first arrested after his unmarked police car struck another vehicle on Saturday in Strasburg. He license was taken away for seven days, but just hours later he was arrested again, driving in his personal vehicle.
