WHSV-TV3 is proud to announce that all three of its major networks are now available to DirecTV viewers in Rockingham and Augusta counties in Virginia and Pendleton County in West Virginia. WHSV-TV3, The Valley’s FOX and myValley have been added to the DirecTV channel lineup.
WHSV-TV3 will be available on channel three, while the Valley's FOX will be on 49, myValley on 50 and WVPT on 51. However, current DirecTV customers who secured service and equipment before November 15, 2007 will likely require an equipment upgrade. This is a simple process that can be done by calling 1-866-607-0724.
“Finally, people who have had such a strong desire to get WHSV, especially local news, weather and sports, will be able to get the station,” says Tracey Jones, Vice-President and General Manager of WHSV.
Those who wish to add DirecTV service or switch from another satellite provider can do so at a number of area retailers, or by visiting DirecTV online at the link below.
WHSV-TV3 has been serving the Shenandoah Valley and Potomac Highlands for more than 50 years, bringing viewers news, weather and entertainment. The Valley’s FOX and myValley went on the air in the spring of 2007. The Valley’s FOX is home to NASCAR, NFL football, Major League baseball and more while Fox’s hit programming includes American Idol.
MyValley is a channel built to accommodate viewers on the go. It features re-airings of WHSV News throughout the day, plus shows like Oprah at 10 p.m. when busy viewers have time to watch them.
Before 1999, satellite television providers like DirecTV and DISH Network were not allowed to retransmit local television channels over satellite. Congressman Bob Goodlatte was instrumental in getting a law passed that allowed satellite companies to provide local channels. He also authored a bill to provide loan guarantees to satellite companies who provide this local service, which was signed into law, and he has continued to encourage the rollout of more local television channels via satellite through numerous pieces of legislation since that time.
“I have been working very closely with DirecTV for years now to bring local television stations via satellite to consumers in this market,” says Goodlatte. “I am extremely pleased to announce DirecTV’s decision to bring local channels to consumers here. Finally, consumers in these rural areas, often beyond the reach of cable lines, will have access to local programming and emergency news and information via satellite.”
WHSV is owned by Gray Television, Inc. (NYSE: GTN), a television broadcast company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, whose primary mission is to provide quality news and entertainment services to the local markets in which the Company operates. Gray currently operates 36 television stations serving 30 markets. In addition, Gray currently operates 39 digital secondary channels.

We get Washington DC Locals, that is crazy that you get NY locals
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ARE THERE ANY PLANS FOR WHSV TO ADD A NBC AND A CBS AFFILIATE THAT WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO DIRECTV CUSTOMERS? CURRENTLY IF WE DESIRE TO SEE THESE NETWORKS WE MUST SUBMIT A WAIVER TO GET THESE STATIONS FROM NY OR LA. ALTHOUGH I CAN WATCH MY FAVORITE SHOWS ON THESE NETWORKS, IT IS NOT THE SAME AS HAVING NBC, AND CBS LOCAL STATIONS.
I AM GLAD TO GET WHSV FINALLY ON DIRECTV, HOWEVER WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF WHSV GETTING NBC, AND CBS AFFILIATES IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
