Waynesboro police say gang membership isn't an overwhelming problem in the Valley, but it does exist.

Officers gave a presentation to educate people about gang related issues on Thursday, and had a message for parents about their kids.

"If you see them starting to wear certain colors or going to certain places or hanging out with certain people, or if they start making certain symbols with their hands, that's something they should pay attention to," said Waynesboro Chief of Police Douglas L. Davis.

Police say to make sure you are always talking to your children about issues like gangs because that can be a parent's best defense.
