There's more bad news for workers at the Staunton Correctional Center.
Tuesday night, the Middle River Regional Jail Authority voted to stop considering the Staunton facility as a future regional jail.
Jail officials say the cost of operating the Staunton jail would be too high, compared to the cost of a new facility.
"The regional jail board voted to recommend to the govern bodies that the Staunton Correctional Center not be used as a regional jail because it would cost an additional $27 million over the first six years of operation compared to the new facility we plan to build," said Staunton City Manager Bob Stripling.
A final vote on the Staunton facility is still required by Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County.
