The deadline may have already passed, but Rockingham County is still going to help some farmers hurt by the avian flu.
The county will extended the real estate tax deadline by 90 days but only on an individual basis.
The deadline to pay those taxes was June 5.
Any farmers who could not make the payment can go to the county administrator's office or the treasury department to ask for the extension. You have to file by July 12.
Meanwhile poultry officials still have no idea where the Avian Flu came from or why it spread so quickly in the Valley.
The local poultry industry has suffered more than $100 million in losses in the last three months.
“Nobody more than the industry wants to stop this, control it, eradicate it and ensure that it would never happen again,” says Hobey Bauhan the president of the poultry federation.
The Avian flu has affected 195 farms in the Valley. Rockingham County had the most cases with 142. More than 4.7 million birds have been killed.
