Death Penalty
A Gallup Organization poll conducted during the height of the sniper attacks found that 70 percent of Americans surveyed support the death penalty.
That's statistically similar to the number who favored execution in polls conducted before and after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
A spokesman for the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty tells the Washington Post the comparison shows Americans are able to distinguish between individual tragedies and overall public policy.
