It's a controversial issue for some but one candidate for Lieutenant Governor's proposal for a faith-based initiative in Virginia is getting some support here in the Valley.
Republican candidate Sean Connaughton of Prince William County held a joint news conference with House Delegate Chris Saxman Wednesday. Both are advocates on implementing a state-wide fath-based initiative. The two believe utilizing faith and community-based organizations can save taxpayers money.
This service would provide similar care to needy citizens that government organizations currently provide.
"It's proving results there and that's what we should be doing is emulating those positive successful programs in other areas of the state or country and bring them to Richmond and coordinate that at a state-wide level," said Saxman.
Connaughton is chairman of the board of supervisors for Prince William County. He says this practice has worked well for one of the state's biggest counties and would do the same for others across Virginia.
