Police say the man they believe is responsible for robbing a local bank is from Virginia Beach.
They say after robbing the Bank of Botetourt in Fairfield, Thomas William Ablett was spotted at a gas station. It was called into police.
That's when the chase began, starting in Augusta County heading north on Interstate 81.
From there, police say Ablett headed East on I-64 into Albemarle County, before cutting across the road, down the median and over to the shoulder of 64 west.
Augusta County sheriff's and others chased him on foot through the woods before capturing him in a nearby field.
Ablett is being held in the Rockbridge Regional Jail where he is charged with one count of bank robbery. Most of the money has been recovered and the investigation continues.
