A California medical examiner says a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head at school Tuesday has been declared brain dead. But he's being kept on a ventilator.

Eighth-grader Lawrence King was pronounced brain dead after two neurosurgeons examined him. King was clinically dead but was kept on a ventilator pending a family decision on organ donation.

An Oxnard Police Department spokesman said Wednesday that King was dead. He said he was told by a hospital official that the teen had died. The spokesman said that he's sticking with his earlier statement.

An unidentified 14-year-old classmate who was arrested after the shooting Tuesday has been booked for investigation of attempted murder.
