Anti-Illegal Immigration Bills Save Email Print

Senators began chipping away at anti-illegal immigrant legislation passed in the House, watering down or killing bills that would require proof if citizenship for changing your name or applying for a marriage license.

The Senate Courts of Justice Committee voted eight-seven Monday in favor of Democratic Delegate Lynwood Lewis' bill to require proof that you live Virginia in order to change your name. The legislation originally would have required proof of citizenship.

Republican Delegate Ed Scott's measure to put in Virginia law a federal statute requiring court clerks to record the Social Security numbers of those applying for a marriage license failed on a seven-eight vote.

Republicans argued Virginia would be sending a message that it doesn't follow federal law, but Democrats said it wasn't necessary to put it in state law.

I myself am hispanic. I do pay taxes. I also contribute to the welfare system that is fairly abused in the us. I came across illegally because my family (my parents)passed away. I had no one or no where to go. I brought my younger 2 siblings as well. I have never asked for welfare. I worked at a very young age and I supported my siblings. I do however have my papers now. I worked hard for them. I pay taxes and I abide by the law. I think some in certain circumstances should be given a chance. Others that have abused the law while here or engaged in crimes should be required to leave the US. That should go for each and every culture , country not just 1 because it borders the US.

Leave it to the Democrates(Liberals) not to institute a law requiring proof of citizenship. This country is in B I G trouble.

The answer is already on the books. The 14th amendment states that any person born under the care and control of the United States is an American citizen. This was reinterpreted during the civil rights years to mean that if an illegal could make it across the border and drop her "anchor" baby in an American hospital at the taxpayers expense (that you and me folks)that baby is an American citizen, and is eligible to the next 18 years of welfare. Of course it is paid to the illegal parents. It is time to go back to the original intent of the 14th amendment, and immediately deport the illegal alien and her baby back to the mothers country, where they both are citizens. I would much rather have my tax dollars pay for a one way ticket than the next 18 years of welfare. If they want to come here for a "better life", let them do it legally and pay their own way. This is an immediate solution, with no additional costs to taxpayers.

Our government is always doing this, headlining legislation (political window dressing & propaganda at best), but there are always so many loopholes. The politicians know most people won't read past the headlines, and the fine print and loopholes give big business what their lobbying dollars paid for. But the citizens, the backbone, the heart & soul of this nation, are never truly represented. Polticians will sell you out every time.

We need to pass state laws because the Federal Government is not doing its job to protect America from this invasion. Looks like we need new Senators in Virginia.
